Media personality Frank Gashumba has made emotional claims about the final days of veteran playwright Alex Mukulu, alleging that the celebrated artiste died without the support and medical care he needed.
Speaking during a local radio interview, Gashumba claimed Mukulu's death at Kiruddu Hospital was partly linked to his inability to afford what he described as better healthcare.
“He died a hopeless man, he couldn't afford better health care and it is the reason he died at Kiruddu Hospital. He was abandoned by family and friends,” he said.
“He Was Abandoned”
Gashumba further alleged that Mukulu did not receive adequate support from some of the people close to him during his final days.
He argued that the playwright's situation could have been different if he had received better medical attention and stronger support from friends and relatives.
The claims have added an emotional dimension to the mourning of Mukulu, whose contribution to Uganda's theatre industry made him a respected figure in the arts.
Mukulu’s Final Send-Off
Alex Mukulu is expected to be laid to rest this Thursday at his ancestral grounds in Mityana, where family, friends, colleagues and mourners will gather to pay their final respects.
