The body of Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV is expected to return to Uganda this Thursday as preparations for his funeral continue.
Yunus Kakande, the deputy chairperson of the government-established King Oyo funeral committee, provided an update on the arrangements, revealing that the King's body is expected to arrive from Nairobi at around 10am.
According to Kakande, President Yoweri Museveni will personally receive the body and pay his respects before the royal family and the people of Tooro.
“The president will receive the body in person and pay his tributes to the King before the royal family and the people of Tooro,” he said.
Body to Be Airlifted to Kyegegwa
Following the arrival ceremony, the King's body will be airlifted by helicopter to Kyegegwa, which will serve as the entry point into the Tooro Kingdom.
From Kyegegwa, the body will be placed on a carriage and transported along the route to Fort Portal, giving Tooro subjects an opportunity to pay their final respects to their late King.
Upon arrival in Fort Portal, the body will be taken to Karuzika Palace, the official royal residence.
Nine Days of Mourning
King Oyo's body will lie in state at Karuzika Palace for nine days as the kingdom prepares for the final burial ceremonies.
After the mourning period, the late King will be laid to rest at his ancestral burial ground, according to the funeral arrangements announced by the committee.
