Police homicide detectives have opened an investigation into the death of Makerere University second-year student Kabuye Kelvin Charles, whose body was found near the university’s Main Library.

Kabuye, a Bachelor of Architecture student at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), was discovered in the early hours of September 28 inside the fenced area housing an MTN mast opposite the Main Library.

In a statement dated September 30, 2026, Makerere University said its security team reported the incident to Makerere Police Station, which responded to the scene.

“Police officers responded immediately and have handed over the investigation to the Wandegeya Homicide Desk and Scene of Crime Officers,” the university said.

The circumstances surrounding Kabuye’s death remain unclear, with investigators awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Makerere University said it is cooperating with police as investigations continue.

Nkrumah Hall Chairman Joseph Ssekabira confirmed that Kabuye was a resident of Room C34 at the hall and described him as a dedicated student.

He extended condolences to Kabuye’s family, classmates and friends as investigations into his death continue.
