Former Makerere University Guild President Churchill Sentamu has defended National Unity Platform (NUP) figure Fred Nyanzi against claims that he harbours resentment towards his younger brother, opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

Speaking during a TikTok address, Sentamu said Nyanzi had played a significant role in shaping Bobi Wine’s journey and insisted that there was no bad blood between the two brothers.

“Chairman Nyanzi has no hatred against Bobi Wine. He has contributed a lot to the person he is today. He is the reason why Bobi Wine is where he is today, and there is no bad blood between the two of them,” Sentamu said.

His remarks came in response to critics who have alleged that Nyanzi was bought off by the government to undermine Bobi Wine’s presidential ambitions. Sentamu rejected the narrative that the two brothers were enemies, instead highlighting Nyanzi’s contribution to Bobi Wine’s rise.

Sentamu also addressed speculation about his own relationship with Bobi Wine, who is his uncle, saying the two remain on good terms despite his decision not to contest through NUP at Makerere University.

“I am in good books with my uncle Bobi Wine. It is all good. I didn’t come through NUP at Makerere for different reasons, but we are good at the moment,” he added.

Sentamu’s comments seek to counter claims of divisions within the family and the wider opposition camp, although the allegations surrounding Nyanzi remain contested.
