Media personality Evelyn Mic has questioned singer Azawi’s progress towards achieving international success, saying the artiste appears to have lost focus on the global ambitions she once promoted.
Speaking on her radio show, Evelyn expressed disappointment that Azawi, who emerged on the music scene with promises of taking Ugandan music to an international audience, has not yet achieved the level of global recognition she expected.
Evelyn said Azawi had given fans hope that she would break into international markets and secure major awards, but believes those ambitions have not materialised as anticipated.
“We had much hope in you, we expected you would go global and secure a few awards for us. What happened to you? You have the potential, but you disappointed me. I am your fan, Azawi, but you let us down. I am coming from a good place, this is not criticism, I want you to get back to the dream you sold us,” she said.
Evelyn emphasised that her remarks were motivated by her admiration for Azawi and her belief in the singer’s potential to reach a wider audience.
She urged the artiste to revisit her international ambitions and continue working towards taking her music beyond Uganda.
Azawi, who rose to prominence under Swangz Avenue, has built a following through songs that have earned her recognition on Uganda’s music scene. However, Evelyn believes the singer can do more to pursue the international breakthrough that fans once anticipated.
