Musician John Blaq has explained why he deliberately limits his public appearances and social media activity, arguing that artistes can build demand for their brands by maintaining some distance from the public.
Speaking in an interview with a local television station, the singer was asked why he is less active on social media compared with other musicians.
John Blaq said he believes artistes should avoid being constantly visible, adding that maintaining a level of scarcity can help make their brands more desirable.
“I wouldn’t want to go live because then that makes me a TikToker. As an artist, you have to create that demand, not be everywhere. That is the only way to make money,” he said in part.
The singer explained that he still uses TikTok, mainly to promote his music by sharing artwork and other promotional materials rather than spending much of his time going live.
However, John Blaq clarified that he does not look down on musicians who are highly active on TikTok, especially those who earn money from the platform.
