By the second episode on Sunday Sept 18, Ugandans on Twitter were buzzing about the humourous and revealing things that Ugandans were saying on the show.

The youth series focuses on relationships and combines music, journalism, puppetry and animation to create a fresh blend of purely Ugandan 'edutainment'. It begins with Katwe Corner, made of real life recorded discussions in Kampala about love, sex and social issues that are acted out with puppets.

Chicken and Chips also includes Pop-up Video that displays trivia, humour and useful factoids on Ugandan hit music videos. The "pop ups" include behind-the-scenes information about the music video and artists, as well as reminders about safe sex.

Talk on the Town, another dish on the Chicken and Chips plate, shows Ugandan youth in Kampala streets answering funny questions that reveal their love life secrets.

Chicken and Chips is hosted by a female puppet in the Ugandan studio. The puppet was created by Muppet Show veteran puppeteers in New York and is voiced by Ugandan celebrity comedian Tindi, known from Fun Factory and KFM radio.

“Chicken and Chips tackles evergreen topics like love and relationships in a fresh way. It is produced locally on international quality,” explained the show’s producers at Media Innovation Lab. “Katwe Corner is puppeted (performed) by artists of Nafasi Art Space in Dar es Salaam. Although the show includes many uniquely Ugandan references, we hope for it to appeal to young people across the region. The topic that is at heart of Chicken and Chips, relationships, is relevant to everyone no matter the nationality, ethnicity, religion, etc. We promise to keep the content valuable and entertaining. So, stay tuned!”

Chicken and Chips is half an hour long, weaving together animation, puppet scenes, music videos, interviews and performances to pack a lot of fun into one half hour every Sunday at 1:30pm on NTV.
