Musician Joseph Mayanja, also known as Jose Chameleone, is celebrated by many as one of the godfathers of the Ugandan music industry.

The singer has since broken his silence about the coffee marathon, which took place in Ntungamo last month, revealing mistakes on the part of the organizers.

The event, which aimed to celebrate the country’s coffee industry, drew criticism due to the mistreatment of local artists in comparison to their international counterpart, Diamond Platnumz.

Many believe local artists were undervalued, and this message has been championed by the musicians' president, Eddy Kenzo.

During a TikTok livestream, Chameleone said there were mistakes made during the event and called for learning from the experience.

“I saw what happened with the Coffee Marathon. It was a mistake. I was busy; I could not share my own views. But every time something negative happens, the smart ones will pick lessons. We learn from our mistakes,” he explained.

The legendary hitmaker wants the organizers to do better next time. He personally did not perform at the event, and reports indicated he refused after being offered little money compared to the 750 million Uganda shillings reportedly given to Diamond Platnumz.
