Musician Shanks Vivie’D has opened up about his painful health and financial struggles, revealing that he was unable to get help after reaching out to Eddy Kenzo during his time of need.
Shanks, who is currently battling multiple health complications, is reportedly set to undergo a spinal cord operation that doctors say is necessary for his recovery. However, the singer says he needs over UGX 24 million to successfully go through with the surgery—money he does not have.
Speaking in an interview with a local YouTuber, Shanks Vivie’D disclosed that he contacted Eddy Kenzo in his capacity as the head of the Uganda National Musicians Federation, hoping the body could assist him as a registered member.
According to Shanks, he explained his medical condition in detail and even shared medical scans to support his case, but the response he received was discouraging.
“I spoke with Eddy Kenzo. He told me they don’t have a budget at this time. Even when I am a member of the federation, I spoke with him and sent him evidence of the scans. He knows everything about my health condition but was never of help,” Shanks explained.
The singer said he was informed that the federation was currently focused on other matters and could not cater for individual health emergencies.
With surgery now out of reach, Shanks Vivie’D says he is currently undergoing physiotherapy as a temporary measure, hoping his condition improves as he looks for financial support.
His revelation has reignited debate within the creative industry about the role of musicians’ associations, welfare structures, and the lack of medical support systems for artistes facing serious health challenges.
As his condition persists, fans and well-wishers continue to call for intervention to help the singer access the urgent medical care he needs.
