Renowned Ugandan songwriter and musician Dokta Brain has revealed that he is considering stepping away from singing to focus entirely on songwriting, a craft he says offers him more freedom, peace, and financial reward.

Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Dokta Brain described singing as exhausting and demanding, saying it often feels like “slavery” compared to the flexibility of songwriting.

“I may step away from singing because it feels like slavery, but my pen will never go silent. Songwriting is effortless, unlike singing where you have to jump on stage every other day,” he said.

The hit songwriter explained that songwriting allows him to work anytime and anywhere, without the pressure and heavy costs associated with performance and promotion.

He added that, financially, songwriting has been more rewarding than being an artist, while also requiring far less investment.

Dokta Brain is widely regarded as one of Uganda’s most gifted songwriters, having penned hits for several top artists across the country. Despite hinting at a possible exit from performing, he assured fans that his creativity remains alive through his writing.
