Media personality Prima Kardashi has caused a big debate online after criticizing her friend AnKnown Prosper and other Ugandan musicians over the quality of their music videos.
Prima said many Ugandan artists make very good songs, but their music videos are not strong enough to attract international audiences. She explained that because of poor video quality, many songs remain popular only locally.
According to her, today a good song alone is not enough. She said artists also need high-quality videos, strong storylines, and professional fashion styling to compete with top African musicians.
She directly advised AnKnown Prosper to improve his videos, saying he is talented but his visuals still look too local. She encouraged him to adopt a more modern and urban style in his music projects.
Prima praised Joshua Baraka, saying he is one of the few young artists in Uganda who understands strong branding. She noted that his videos combine modern style with clear storytelling, something she believes many artists are missing.
She also criticized musicians who spend heavily on recording songs but avoid investing in music videos. Prima said some even fail to provide proper styling for video models, which affects the final quality.
She stressed that things like clothing, actors, shooting locations, and lighting are very important because they show an artist’s level of professionalism.
Prima advised musicians to stop rushing into video shoots without planning. She said repeated ideas and low-budget productions are slowing down Uganda’s music industry and stopping many artists from growing beyond the local market.
