Junior Local Government Minister Justine Nameere has explained why TikToker Benitah received Shs5 million instead of the $10,000 she had reportedly promised to give her after she lost her job in Bahrain.
Nameere said her team became concerned after finding what she described as several inconsistencies in Benitah's account, prompting her to reconsider sending the full amount.
“She received five million instead of US Dollar ten thousand because of many discrepancies in her story. There is a lot of inconsistencies, she says this today and tomorrow says otherwise,” Nameere said.
Nameere Says Benitah Rejected Help to Return Home
The minister also revealed that she had sought assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate Benitah's return to Uganda.
According to Nameere, however, the TikToker declined the offer.
“I had asked Ministry of Foreign Affairs to bring her back home and she refused,” she added.
Why Shs5 Million Was Sent
Nameere said the Shs5 million was eventually sent through her personal assistant after Benitah requested financial assistance to clear a debt she had reportedly incurred in Bahrain.
The payment followed a public dispute in which Benitah accused Nameere of failing to honour her earlier promise of $10,000.
