Fik Gaza has blamed the growing connection between politics and music for the struggles artistes are facing, particularly when it comes to attracting fans to concerts.
Speaking on a local radio station, Fik Gaza agreed that political divisions have negatively affected Uganda's entertainment industry, arguing that musicians increasingly find themselves under pressure to choose political sides.
According to the singer, such divisions can hurt an artiste's career by alienating sections of their fanbase.
‘I Need Both NRM and NUP’
Fik Gaza said artistes cannot afford to restrict themselves to one political camp because their careers depend on support from people with different political views.
“As a ghetto youth, I cannot pick sides. I need both NRM and NUP,” he said.
The singer maintained that staying politically neutral is important for his career, especially because his music appeals to people across different backgrounds.
When asked which political side he personally supports, Fik Gaza refused to take a position, arguing that openly declaring his allegiance could create problems within his fanbase.
“I don't want to go deep into that because it will bring problems in my fan base,” he said.
Fik Gaza Keeps Politics at Arm’s Length
The singer also avoided discussing when exactly he believes politics became deeply intertwined with Uganda's music industry.
However, the relationship between music and politics has attracted increased attention in recent years, particularly following Bobi Wine's transition from musician to political leader, with political affiliations increasingly becoming part of conversations surrounding artistes and their careers.
