Former talent manager and singer Geoffrey Kyagambiddwa, popularly known as Chagga, has denied reports that he was deported from the United Kingdom, insisting he is free to return and resume work there.
Chagga said he plans to go back to the UK, where he had been working before returning to Uganda. He questioned why people assumed he had been deported, arguing that his return home did not mean he had been forced out of the country.
“I was busy working in London, UK, and I will still go back and work. How do you think I returned, and do you know whether I will go back? A person who is deported doesn’t return with anything, and I am protected by the whites,” he said.
Despite dismissing the deportation reports, Chagga admitted that his experience in London was more difficult than he had expected.
“You know every country has good and bad people. In London, I found good people, but it also has bad people, just like here in Kampala, Uganda. There are people you meet and believe are good, only for them to turn against you. When I reached London, life initially became hard and challenging for me,” he explained.
Chagga also revealed that some people he expected to welcome him at the airport failed to show up, leaving him disappointed because he had relied on them for support.
He further claimed that some of his associates wanted him to surrender to UK police as part of an asylum process, but said he was not willing to follow their plan.
“Even those I expected to pick me up from the airport didn’t. My hope was in them. My guys wanted me to do something for them, yet I wasn’t ready to do what they wanted. They wanted me to surrender to the white police for the asylum things, but that wasn’t my plan,” he added.
Chagga’s remarks come amid speculation about the circumstances surrounding his return to Uganda. However, he maintains that he was not deported and intends to return to the UK to continue working.
