Kapeke, an emerging musician, expresses strong disbelief in the current state of hip-hop artists in Uganda.
In a recent interview with a local television station, Kapeke asserted that hip-hop music is dead within Uganda's music industry. He claims that artists are no longer creating true hip-hop, with rappers instead focusing on dancehall and other genres.
He believes many hip-hop artists have gone into "hibernation," leaving a significant void in the industry and underserved fans.
"Rappers are no longer here; hip-hop is dead as of today. Artists are no longer doing hip-hop; they have nothing to give us at the moment. They are doing dancehall music and other things but not hip-hop," he explained.
Kapeke added that he doesn't rate current hip-hop artists in the industry because the genre is "dead and silent."
In Uganda, artists who have championed hip-hop include Navio, Fefe Bussi, Nellysade, Babaluku, and Fik Fameica, among others.
