I’d Rather Make Timeless Music than viral moment - Vinka

Swangz Avenue singer Vinka has revealed that she would rather build a catalogue of timeless songs than constantly chase the next big hit.

The singer believes some songs may dominate the charts for a short period before disappearing, while well-crafted music can continue entertaining audiences for years.

“Sometimes there are hit songs that disappear after one year, and yet there are good songs that are going to be played forever,” Vinka said.

According to Vinka, musicians should therefore focus more on creating quality music than obsessing over whether every release becomes an instant hit.

She pointed to Rema Namakula and Daxx Kartel's “Onzise” as an example of a song whose quality allows it to grow on listeners and potentially achieve lasting relevance.

“I think it’s good to have many good songs than hit songs,” she said.

Vinka added that having several quality songs can ultimately be more valuable to an artiste's career than producing one massive hit and struggling to maintain the momentum.

Her argument comes from her own experience in the music industry, where she has remained active through different musical trends while continuing to release music.

For Vinka, the real measure of an artiste's success is not simply how quickly a song becomes popular, but how long people continue to listen to it after the hype has disappeared.
