Afrigo Band will continue performing despite the death of its longtime leader and founding member Moses Matovu, with management confirming that all existing bookings will be honoured.
Matovu, popularly known as Papa Moi, died on September 24, 2026, aged 77, following an attack in Kibuli.
In a statement, Afrigo Band management said the veteran musician had laid a strong foundation for the band over more than five decades, and that his legacy would continue to guide its work.
“All bookings shall be honoured. The band remains intact and committed to delivering the quality performance that Afrigo is known for. Do not lose heart. Moses Matovu laid a solid foundation for over 50 years. The discipline, talent, and values he instilled in the band remain intact and will continue. The Afrigo Band will continue to live on in his honour,” the statement read.
The management reassured fans and clients that the band remains committed to its scheduled performances despite the loss of its longtime leader.
Matovu was a founding member of Afrigo Band and remained one of Uganda’s most recognised live-band musicians throughout his career.
His death marked the end of an era for the band, but Afrigo says the music will continue in his honour.
