Singer Tracy Melon has admitted that artificial intelligence can sometimes deliver vocal performances beyond what human singers can achieve.
Speaking in an interview with Galaxy TV, Tracy said AI-generated music often sounds “too clean” and “too perfect,” which she believes can make it easier to identify compared to the natural imperfections in human vocals.
“Something about AI, it’s too clean, it’s too perfect, which isn’t a bad thing, but AI can hit notes that I can’t hit. There are things I can’t do as a singer, but AI is flexible,” she said.
Tracy explained that she considers herself a mid-range vocalist, while AI has no physical limitations because it does not have a human throat or vocal range to work within.
According to the singer, this gives AI an advantage when producing certain vocal performances that may be difficult for human artistes to replicate.
“AI can do better than me, but it’s a robot, and I can’t compete with that,” she added.
Despite acknowledging AI’s vocal capabilities, Tracy said its polished sound can also make AI-generated music stand out from performances by human singers.
