Veteran musician and actress Mariam Ndagire says she never deliberately chose music as a career, insisting that the art form has always found its way into her life.
Ndagire, who has built a successful career in theatre, film and music, explained that her strong connection with musicians has made it difficult for her to focus on theatre alone.
“I am a theatre person, but the love artists from music have for me doesn’t allow me to stay in theatre only,” she said while speaking on a podcast.
She recalled how legendary Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu first noticed her vocal talent while she was performing in a choir.
According to Ndagire, Matovu singled her out from the choir and encouraged her to step forward and sing on her own during theatrical performances.
“Moses Matovu singled me out from the choir and told me to stand up and told me to start singing alone for the plays,” she recalled.
Ndagire’s story highlights the role Matovu played in encouraging her musical talent at an early stage of her career, helping open a door that eventually led her deeper into music.
