The wait is finally over for ages there has been a debate on how does the current syllabus relevantly benefit the creative market value, well The National Council Of Curriculum Development Centre has launched a new O’ Level syllabus that is seen to be a more practical context that will commence 2017, the 43 O’ Level subjects will be replaced with 8 major subjects. The NCDC looks at replacing what's normally termed as subjects to "Learning areas".
Mathias Mulumba the coordinator of lower secondary reform programme says "Kiswahili will make Ugandans more competitive in the fast integrating E. Africa", as it has been made compulsory in the new curriculum. The compulsory subjects include Creative Arts, Mathematics, Science, Technology and enterprise, Religious Education, Social Studies, life education, languages, Kiswahili and English However students will be able to choose other languages besides the local dialects and foreign languages these include , Ateso, Arabia, Latin, Runyankole-Rukiga, Lusoga, Ateso, French and Germany .Henry Adramunguni the language specialized at NCDC noted that all other languages could not be included due to lack of technical materials.
The in-service teachers will go under a training daily until they meet the current standards of their colleagues at University that are schooling on the up dated Changes and furthermore the curriculum bends the class room time, "classes will end at 2:40 rather than the normal 4:40pm, this will give more time to students to reflect on creative work" added Joseph Kintu Expert of Science at NCDC.
