President Yoweri Museveni will Thursday 16th February preside over the commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Archbishop Janan Luwum.
Addressing the press at the Uganda media center this morning, Father Simon Lokodo the Ethics minister said the function will start at 9:00am at Mucwini in Kitgum District.
“We shall on the same day unveil the design master plan to transform the burial site at Micwini into an International Religious tourist site” Lokodo said.
The archbishop was shot dead on February 16th 1977 under the Amin’s regime after he was falsely accused of being involved in a plot to overthrow the Government.
Three years ago, President Yoweri Museveni declared 16th February a public holiday in honor of St. Janani Luwum, the former Archbishop of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Boga Zaire.
Fr. Lokodo invited all Ugandans to join in the celebrations at Micwini, stating that it is not a celebration for the Anglican Church alone, but is a special pride for all Ugandans.
“I appeal to all believers in God to attend the celebrations in Mucwini, Kitgum District on Thursday 16th February 2017, and beginning from 9:00am” He said.
