The leader of muslim community at Parliament, Hon. Latiff Ssebagala has expressed displeaseure at the low attendance of MPs at the thanks giving prayer which is ongoing in Kampala.

Hon. Ssebagala says the prayer is supposed to bring legislators closer to God.

The prayer comes a day after commencement of the parliament week which was launched on Sunday by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

The parliament week was opened with a walk that saw members of parliament participate alongside the public. This year’s walk was to support people living with Albinism. It was aimed at raising funds for construction of a one stop center for persons living with albinism.

This morning, a few legislators turned up for the thanksgiving prayer being led by Msgnr. Lawrence Ssemusu. He preached need for unity among MPs. He also prayed that they may be one just as Christ prayed before he ascended to heaven.

The parliament week which started on Sunday January 21sty will run until Thursday January 25th 2018.

Speaker of parliament, Kadaga says there will be a public debate on Thursday 25th. The house will be chaired by a selected member of the public, and proceedings will be recorded in the Hansard and resolutions later be debated in plenary.

Winnie Kiiza, the leader of opposition said the week gives an opportunity to Ugandans to visit the house and interact with MPs, despite their political affiliations.
