Traders in Kiryandongo district are in tears after their property worth millions of shillings was destroyed in a fire that gutted 12 kiosks in Karuma Town Council.

Traders in Kiryandongo district are in tears after their property worth millions of shillings was destroyed in a fire that gutted 12 kiosks in Karuma Town Council.  

The Kiosks were burnt in the wee hours of Thursday morning at around 2 am destroying several items.   

According to Joseph Bakaleke, the Kiryandongo District Police Commander, the fire is suspected to have originated from a charcoal stove that was left burning in one of the wooden Kiosks and spread to other kiosks.

He explains that some of the Kiosks were accommodating food stores, bars, shops and hotels and restaurants among others. 

one of the Kiosk owners James Ochaya told Howwe that he lost more than 3 million shillings.   

They have since converged at Kiryandongo central police station to record statements.
