President Yoweri Museveni has finally broken words on the events that preluded his visit to the US leading to the cancellation of his hotel bookings.

While President Yoweri Museveni planned to visit Dallas Texas, members of the Ugandan community were busy mobilising the LGBT community to protest his coming.

They blamed him for passing the anti-gay bill that aims at restricting activities related to same sex marriage with a promise of imprisonment as a punishment.

While the protests were being planned at a high gear, a Texas hotel where the President had made reservations cancelled his stay.

Mr Museveni was supposed to stay at Four Seasons Hotel on MacArthur Boulevard in Irving.

The LGBT community threatened to storm the Irving Convention Center where the President was to address investors.

Museveni speaks out

While meeting Ugandan diaspora in Texas to discuss possibilities of investing in Uganda and contributing to Uganda’s growth today, Mr Museveni finally opened up on the gay protest and the cancellation of his hotel reservations.

“My people made hotel bookings for me, but homosexuals blocked it,” he started on a sad note.

“I said, tell those people who invited me, to find me where to sleep. Am not dying to come to Texas.”

The president finally got shelter at the spacious Howdy Lone Star ranch in Texas.

This is not the first time such an incident is happening to the President while on foreign tours.

Sometime back, he was attacked by the same group while at a business forum in the UK and his hotel allegedly raided by members of the LGBT community demanding that he repeals the anti-gay law.

Hotel matters and protests aside, President Museveni encouraged Ugandans in the Diaspora to come back and invest at home.

“I have guided the Uganda Investment Authority convert into a one-stop-centre, I will soon shake it up to make it responsive to investor needs.”
