The opposition Forum for Democratic Change, FDC party wants police to released Dr. Stella Nyanzi the party flag bearer for Kampala woman MP, who was arrested at Busia on her way from Kenya.

While addressing the media at party headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Monday morning, John Kikonyogo the party deputy spokesperson revealed that the incident happened three days ago and that she was in custody for one day in Busia but has since been taken to an unknown place.

“She was incarcerated there for one day, no case was mentioned to her, which is criminal. She was kept in the cells and was moved from Busia to a place we don’t know up to now. We are trying to investigate” Kikonyogo adds.

The party also wants police to stop arresting their flag bearers in different parts of the country.

Kikonyogo said that last week, police also arrested Miles Rwamiti who is vying for Hoima East Member of Parliament.

Rwamiti was arrested in Hoima when he went to rescue his supporters who were in police custody. However, after releasing them, Rwamiti was forced into the cells to replace them. His other supporters that had Rwamiti had gone to the police with were also arrested and taken to jail where they are still languishing.

Rwamiti managed to secure a police bond after two days in custody. They are being charged with malicious damage to a road, a charge that the party believes is uncalled for.
“When he got there, he managed to rescue them and they were released. Immediately after, he replaced them in jail with all the people he had gone with. 5 people are in jail, eventually they were taken to court, while Rwamiti was released on police bond after 2 days in custody. They are on remand and the case is too interesting, ‘malicious damage to the road’” Kikonyogo said.

He notes that they are heading into elections and don’t want these unnecessary arrests to cost their candidates their intended wins. “We call upon the police to immediately tell us where they are keeping Stella Nyanzi. We want Stella Nyanzi alive” Kikonyogo noted.
