One person has been confirmed dead following an explosion at a scrap dealership in Kapeeka.

According to ASP Semwogerere Isah the Regional PRO Savannah, at around 0900 hours this morning, police received information that an unexploded ordinance explosive device exploded and killed one person identified as Mandela Alfred aged 24 years old. 

The incident occurred in Kapeeka central village, Kapeeka parish, Kapeeka subcounty, Nakaseke district. 

The incident occurred at the home of Mr. Robert Tumwete, a scrap business dealer in Kapeeka. It is alleged that the deceased had collected scrap objects containing an unexploded Explosive ordinance from unknown places. 

Semwogerere says that their preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was hitting the un exploded ordinance which exploded and killed him instantly. The object also hit and injured two other people identified as Anthony Asiimwe and Tukwasibwe Nelson. 

“We have evacuated the two injured victims to Nakaseke hospital for further management” Semwogerere says.

Police also opened a case file vide GEF 16/202. A team led by DPC Nakaseke visited the scene visited by and recorded relevant statements. While the hunt for Tumwete Robert the business owner is on as he took off after the incident. 

By press time, the deceased’s body was still at the scene pending postmortem.
