Police in Kampala have confirmed they're holding the General Secretary of the National Unity Platform(NUP) David Rubongoya at Nateete police station in Kampala.

Rubongoya and his driver Agaba David were both arrested on Wednesday while returning from the Court of Appeal where NUP legislators Muhammed Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana had appeared.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, says the duo is being held on charges of threatening violence, pending their transfer to Gulu City for further management.

Onyango explains that the duo has been on police’s wanted list following an incident involving Rubongoya’s white Toyota Land Cruiser car Reg. No. UAS 490Z in Omoro County during by-elections.

He says that on May 26, the duo followed the Minister for Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng in an act believed to be threatening.

Rubongoya first confirmed being held at Wandegeya police post where he was later released, and re-arrested at Nateete police post.

Rubongoya was part of the team that traveled to Omoro to solicit votes for Simon Toolit Akecha, the NUP flag bearer in the Omoro County by-elections.

The Omoro County seat that fell vacant after the demise of former speaker Jacob Oulanyah L’Okori was taken by his son Andrew Ojok amid violence and protests from opposition politicians.
