Residents of Nassuti village in Paacwa sub-county are mourning the death of 12-year-old boy who drowned in river Ruzaire in Kagadi district on Sunday evening while running away from a stray dog.

The deceased is Aheebwa Bainganiza a son of Jimmy Aheebwa who drowned around 7 pm while trying to run away from a stray dog that had attacked him together with two other children.

Vincent Byamukama, the Officer-In-Charge of Paacwa police station, says that they teamed up with the locals and retrieved the minor's body from the river and handed it over to the relatives for burial after the postmortem.

This is not the first child to die in similar circumstances. In October, a 10-year-old boy who went missing from his parent's home in Hoima district was found dead in a dam. The deceased was only identified as Jarieko, a son of Sarah Paculal of Kigaaga village in Nzorobi parish in Kabaale sub-county.

Jarieko allegedly disappeared from his parent's home on October 20th. This compelled the family members to mount a search for him in vain. Residents joined the family members in search of the missing boy without success.

However, the residents were later shocked when they discovered the minor's body floating in a dam in Nyakasenene village on October 24th, 2022.
The dam was dug by China Railway Seventh Group Company Limited, which is currently undertaking the construction of the 25.7km Kabaale-Kiziranfumbi road, one of the critical oil roads.
