Uganda’s envoy to Kenya and Seychelles Dr. Hassan Wasswa Galiwango, died on Monday morning at Nairobi Hospital in Kenya.
Dr Galiwango succumbed to an unknown illness in the hospital where he was admitted on Thursday last week. The deceased has previously suffered heart complications and was first admitted at Mulago National Specialized Hospital.
His death was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Monday, stating that the burial arrangements will be released in due time.
"He passed on this morning Jan 16th, 2023 at Nairobi Hospital where he has been undergoing treatment," the statement reads in part
Also a husband to Mbale city Woman Member of Parliament, Connie Nakayenze Galiwango, Dr. Galiwango was appointed High Commissioner in October 2020 by President Yoweri Museveni, to replace Phibby Otaala, who had left office to join active politics.
He has previously served as Uganda’s permanent representative to the United Nations Environment Program and UN-HABITAT.
He has been a Director of Finance at the National Resistance Movement-NRM party Secretariat. In addition to previously serving as Mbale Resident District Commissioner and Mbale Industrial Division LC III Chairperson.
Dr. Galiwango opened a number of schools in Mbale including; Mbale Progressive Secondary School, the pioneer private secondary school among others.
