A joint African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) force has successfully retaliated against the terrorist group Al Shabaab.

The attack was in response to Al Shabaab's assault on a forward operating base in Buulo Mareer, which resulted in casualties among Ugandan soldiers.

The ATMIS force pursued the fleeing terrorists and eliminated a significant number of them. They also recovered weapons that had been looted from the base. ATMIS reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism and pledged to continue working closely with the Federal Government of Somalia and international partners to secure the country.

“ATMIS and Somalia National Army troops have successfully pursued the fleeing Al-Shabaab terrorists involved in the ATMIS forward operating base attack in Buulo Mareer. A substantial number of the terrorists have been eliminated,” ATMIS said in a brief statement.

President Museveni of Uganda expressed his condolences and vowed that the terrorists would face consequences for their actions.

He also criticized his own troops for panicking during the attack, which may have worsened the situation. The attack occurred in the Lower Shabelle region, known as an Al Shabaab stronghold.

Despite repeated attempts by the terrorist group to target ATMIS troops in the region, previous attacks have been successfully thwarted.
