A 21-year-old male student from Samson Memorial High School Kyebando has been remanded to Luzira prison after being accused of performing a sexual act with a 15-year-old female student while being aware of his HIV-positive status. The student appeared before grade one Magistrate Jane Tibagonzeka at Kampala City Hall Court, where he was charged with aggravated defilement.
The nature of the charge is grave, and the magistrate did not allow the student to enter a plea. Aggravated defilement carries a maximum penalty of death upon conviction.
The prosecution alleges that on July 22, 2023, at Samson Memorial High School-Kyebando in Kawempe Division, Kampala district, the accused engaged in a sexual act with a 15-year-old girl, knowing that he was HIV positive.
The case has been scheduled for mention on August 16, 2023, as investigations into the matter continue.
