Police in Rukungiri District have arrested three individuals in connection with the death of a 24-year-old man, Kakuru Gidion, also known as Hakizimana Kaboy, following a violent assault in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at around 3:00 AM on July 27, 2025, at Kanyankyende Cell, Nyabitete Parish, Bugangari Sub-county.The suspects in custody are,Nsimire Justine (female adult ,Ndyamuhaki Posiano (male adult , Murokozi John (male adult).
According to police investigations, the altercation began on the evening of July 26, 2025, at a bar owned by Nsimire Justine in Kanyankyende Trading Centre. The deceased, who was reportedly in a romantic relationship with Nsimire, allegedly attempted to initiate sexual activity with her at the bar. This action was opposed by her brothers, Ndyamuhaki and Murokozi, which sparked a heated disagreement.
The situation escalated, leading to a physical assault in which the two men allegedly attacked Kakuru and left him unconscious by the roadside.
The area chairperson, Habaasa Wilber, was notified and responded to the scene. He, along with other community members, attempted to transport the victim to a nearby hospital. However, Kakuru was pronounced dead before arrival.
The matter was reported to Bugangari Police Station. The crime scene was visited, documented, and the suspects were arrested to assist with ongoing investigations.
The body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The Kigezi Regional Police have confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing. Authorities are urging the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to report disputes to relevant authorities for peaceful resolution.
