A coordinated effort by law enforcement and quick-thinking citizens led to the apprehension of a dangerous gang that carried out a series of armed robberies across multiple districts in the early hours of Saturday, July 27, 2025. The suspects, armed with pangas, terrorized residents and businesses before being cornered in Namanve Industrial Park.
The crime spree began around 3:00 AM in Nabweru-Mukono District. The gang then moved through Kyaliwajjala and Sonde in Wakiso District, before proceeding to Seeta Town in Mukono. A suspect later admitted to this extensive route.
On their return journey to Nabweru, the assailants committed another robbery at Namanve Industrial Park along the Kampala-Jinja highway. It was here that a group of vigilant boda-boda riders initiated a pursuit, quickly involving officers from the Namanve Coca-Cola police post, who joined the chase.
The suspects were located attempting to hide behind KAWACOM Company within the industrial park. During the confrontation, one of the robbers, identified as Nsubuga, violently attacked an officer with a panga. In self-defense, the officer shot Nsubuga, incapacitating him with injuries to the waist and leg.
Two other suspects were successfully arrested at the scene:
Asimwe Stephen, 26 years old
Musinga Musa, 22 years old
Authorities recovered crucial evidence, including three pangas and a motorcycle with registration number UGG 597Y from Asimwe Stephen. Additionally, three smartphones believed to have been stolen were seized from the suspects.
Nsubuga, who sustained gunshot wounds, was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. The swift response and collaboration between the public and police were instrumental in bringing this dangerous group to justice and preventing further harm. Investigations are ongoing to determine if there are any other individuals involved in these criminal activities.
