The Electoral Commission on Thursday concluded the nomination process for Members of Parliament ahead of next year’s general elections, with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) emerging as the biggest winner.
The NRM secured five parliamentary seats unopposed, a major pre-election victory that has sparked celebrations within the party. The confirmed candidates will now proceed to be sworn in as Members of Parliament without facing any ballot contest.
Among those declared unopposed are some of the country’s most influential political figures — including Speaker of Parliament Anita Among (Bukedea Woman MP) and Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa (Ruhinda North MP).
They are joined by Lillian Paparu Obiale (Arua District Woman MP), Catherine Akumu Mavenjina (Older Persons MP, Northern Uganda), and Ruth Rujoki Mushabe (Kiruhura District Woman MP).
The development further cements NRM’s dominance in several constituencies, as the party heads into the 2026 elections with early parliamentary victories already secured.
