An 18-year-old male student has been found dead, hanging in a toilet at Naalya Secondary School, Bweyogerere Campus, in Kira Municipality.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident was reported on the evening of July 8, 2026. The student was discovered inside a toilet block in the boys' section of the school.
"Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was seen entering the toilet block shortly before he was discovered," Owoyesigyire said.
Police also found a handwritten note at the scene, which they believe was written by the student. Officers have kept the note as evidence and are examining its contents to help with the investigation.
A team of detectives and crime scene officers visited the school, recorded statements from witnesses, and took the body to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Owoyesigyire added that investigations into the cause and circumstances of the incident are still ongoing, and police have promised to provide more updates.
This is not the first time such an incident has happened at a school. In February last year, a 16-year-old student was found dead in a dormitory at Seeta High School in Mukono. Around the same time, another Senior Three student seriously injured herself while protesting her parents' decision to send her back to Mpoma Girls' School, an all-girls school in Mukono District.
