The Uganda traffic Police department says they collected 120million shillings from traffic offenders during the festive season.

Addressing the media at the Police headquarters in Naguru Kampala this morning, Director traffic Stephen kasiima said some of the offenders were drunk-drivers, and those without permits.

Kasiima also said police registered six deaths on 31 December due to accidents, attributing the major cause of these accidents to damaged tyres, before blaming drivers who do not check for expiry and manufacture dates of tyres. Kasiima calls upon UNBS and tyre inspectors to confiscate all tyres that are not of agreed standards.

He also promised that by the of May, every vehicle and boda bodas will be inspected in an exercise championed by SGS company from Switzerland. However, this inspection will exempt brand new vehicles less than 5 years on the road.
