In the aftermath of a contentious split from Team No Sleep (TNS), musician Chozen Blood reveals how a collaboration with singer Winnie Nwagi sparked his solo career.
Initially, the song "Yitayo Ondabeko" was intended to feature Nina Roz, a former TNS member. However, scheduling her to appear in the recording studio proved challenging.
"I was supposed to record 'Yotayo Ondabeko' with Nina Roz. Although I was familiar with Winnie (Nwagi), we weren't exactly close. After leaving TNS, I got in touch with Yese Oman Rafiki. Following the song's completion, we concluded that it required a female voice. I had a mutual friend with Nina's manager, so I had him listen to the song. He adored it and promised to pay for the video. I was with her at TNS, so I said, 'No problem.' However, I believe Nina was dealing with some personal issues. We made three appointments, but I ultimately realized I needed to move on," he explained to a well-known media figure on YouTube.
"I thought of Winnie because I had written her song 'Katono Katono.' I contacted Julius (Kyazze of Swangz Avenue), who scheduled an appointment for us. We met, and I played the song for her. She liked it, and we recorded it. It became an instant hit and launched my solo career," he continued.
