Recent Grammy nominee Eddy Kenzo has once again dominated headlines after being nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for his collaboration with instrumentalist Mehran Matin on the inspirational track “Hope and Love.”

The nomination received mixed reactions across the entertainment industry — while some critics claimed Kenzo was simply lucky and didn’t deserve the recognition, others celebrated the milestone as a victory for Uganda’s music scene.

However, rapper Da Agent has taken a different stance. Although he congratulated Kenzo on the global achievement, he pointed out that the singer may have shifted his focus away from more critical industry battles — particularly the long–awaited copyright law reforms.

“Eddy Kenzo might have been chasing Grammy nominations instead of focusing on the copyright issues he always talks about. He must have focused on himself and not the artistes he claims to be speaking for,” Da Agent said.

Kenzo has previously championed copyright reforms since the launch of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), promising to push for new legislation to protect artists’ work. However, progress on the matter has stalled, and no amendments have been secured to date.

Da Agent believes the delay is a sign that the leadership lost direction and failed to deliver on commitments made to artists across the country.
