Former presidential candidate Bobi Wine has confirmed that his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, and their children fled Uganda over safety concerns.

Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, made the revelation on Wednesday while delivering a video message to the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy.

The opposition leader, who says he has been in hiding since January 15th, accused the Ugandan government of operating what he described as a “violent military dictatorship.”

He alleged that President Yoweri Museveni and the Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, orchestrated widespread violence and election irregularities.

In his address, Bobi Wine claimed that security forces raided his home in Magere, tortured members of his family, and humiliated his wife.

“The military raided my home, tortured my family, humiliated my wife, and shared pictures on Twitter. My wife Barbie and our children had to flee the country for fear of their lives,” he said.

The revelations have sparked fresh debate among supporters and critics, with many calling for independent investigations into the allegations.

Government officials are yet to issue a formal response to Bobi Wine’s latest claims.
