Music star Bebe Cool has publicly accused former Miss Rwanda 2016, Jolly Mutesi, of being linked to an alleged online scam, sparking a social media dispute between Uganda and Rwanda.
In a series of posts shared on X on Tuesday evening, Bebe Cool tagged Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame and Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, claiming that Mutesi and an alleged accomplice had been targeting victims online for years.
"I have to do this for the good of the Republic of Rwanda and a president who has done a lot to sell his country’s image," Bebe Cool wrote while sharing what he claimed was a UK phone number linked to Mutesi.
The singer alleged that several people had been scammed and claimed he had verified Mutesi’s identity through one of the alleged victims. He further alleged that the suspects used a contact in Uganda to receive money and promised to release screenshots of their conversations as evidence.
However, Mutesi strongly denied the allegations, arguing that Bebe Cool had fallen victim to fraudsters impersonating her using her name and photographs.
"First and foremost, I regret that you were scammed by an impersonator, but please next time use common sense and fact-check before making allegations on people’s names," she responded.
In a separate statement, Mutesi warned the public about fake accounts operating under the name "Akansasira Jolly" and shared a previous public notice in which she cautioned followers against online scammers impersonating her.
"It has come to my attention that someone has created a fake account and is impersonating me," she said, urging the public not to engage with unverified profiles.
As of Wednesday morning, Bebe Cool had not released the screenshots he promised, leaving the allegations unverified and the dispute unresolved.
Neither Ugandan nor Rwandan authorities had publicly commented on the matter by the time of publication. The controversy continues to generate debate online, with many users calling for evidence before drawing conclusions.
