As part of its ongoing “Together We Are Unstoppable” campaign, MTN Uganda has recently named Chief Community Officers (CCOs) to enhance its community engagement initiatives. The CCOs will be responsible for gaining a better understanding of the needs and aspirations of communities they represent, aiding MTN in executing a needs-based strategy.

In connection with the CCO project, MTN Uganda’s Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Somdev Sen, and MTN Commercial Head for the Western Region, Andrew Tusubira, visited business communities in Fort Portal. During the visit, Honourable Alex Ruhunda Akiiki was introduced as the Chief Community Officer for Western Uganda. This initiative is part of MTN’s dedication to reaching communities and ensuring its services are available while people go about their daily lives.

“It is important to work from within the community and to have someone from that community who will work on behalf of MTN to get to know what the people of the community require so that we can serve you, our stakeholders better,” stated Somdev. “We believe that if we can support you in a way that makes your life a little simpler, makes your hustle a little easier, that will also be our success as MTN, and when we grow together, we will be unstoppable.”

Andrew Tusubira added, “As we continue to expand our services across Uganda, it’s crucial that we deepen our engagement with the communities we serve. The appointment of Chief Community Officers demonstrates our commitment to listening to our customers and creating strategies that assist them in achieving great things in their businesses, families, and

communities.” He also mentioned that by strengthening their ties with the people on the ground, MTN will be better able to create long-term value for its customers and their communities.

During the event, Hon. Alex Ruhunda Akiiki, the new CCO for the Western Region, thanked MTN for supporting the people of the region and suggested that there were many additional projects on which they could collaborate for mutual benefit.

After being appointed as the new CCO, Hon. Alex Ruhunda led the CMO and the rest of the MTN team to the Bridge Institute of Information Technology, a unique and modern knowledge-based institution where they listened to some of their students sharing their inspiring stories of resilience. The team then visited the Boda Boda Owners and Operators Association of Fort Portal to engage directly with riders on what support MTN could provide to support their hustles.

The MTN CCOs appointed now cover the whole country, with the goal of developing a culture of community engagement and strengthening the company’s strategy from the ground up. MTN is dedicated to creating sustainable value for its customers and communities, and the CCOs will play a crucial role in achieving this objective because together we are unstoppable.
