As Muslims observe Ramadan, Salaam TV, in conjunction with MTN MOMO and Haji-Umra Bureau, is sponsoring pilgrims for Umra, the pilgrimage to Mecca.
During a Ramadan Dinner at Serena Hotel Kampala on March 13, 2024, MTN MOMO announced their support for the pilgrims. The event brought together Muslim community leaders, MTN Uganda and Salaam TV representatives, and other guests.
Sarah Okwi Bateta, MTN MoMo's Chief Financial Officer, emphasized the partnership's importance.
"We are proud to collaborate with Salaam TV and the Haji-Umra Bureau to aid our Muslim brothers and sisters on their spiritual journey," Sarah said.
"Pilgrims can conveniently pay their travel fees using MTN MoMo, making the process hassle-free and accessible."
Sarah also announced the reintroduction of MTN Uganda's special Ramadan bundle, which provides customers with 30 minutes and 100MBs daily on loading airtime or buying any bundle worth 500/= or more.
This initiative aims to facilitate communication during fasting and is open to all MTN customers.
Hajji Karim Kaliisa, Salaam TV's Chairman, expressed gratitude for the partnership, stressing unity within the Muslim community.
"This season will feature the journeys of 10 people winning Umrah courtesy of MOMO Pay," Kaliisa said.
"We thank MTN Uganda for their generous support, ensuring Umrah is accessible to all."
Kaliisa also thanked MTN Uganda for collaborating with Salaam TV since 2017.
They have engaged in activities like Ramadan Outreaches, Regional Iftar Dinners, and the Road to Mecca Campaign, educating viewers about Mecca journeys.
