TCL reported global shipments of 2.43 million Mini LED televisions in the first half of 2026, a 77.1% increase compared with the same period last year, as the technology gains a bigger foothold in the television market.
According to Omdia data cited in TCL Electronics’ interim results, the company ranked first globally by Mini LED TV shipment volume during the six-month period.
The performance follows a strong 2025, when TCL reported a 31.1% share of global Mini LED television shipments and a 118% year-on-year increase in shipment volume, also citing Omdia data.
The figures show the scale of TCL’s business in a category increasingly competing for consumers’ attention across different products and price points.
Mini LED televisions use smaller LEDs to illuminate an LCD panel, allowing manufacturers to build denser backlight systems. When effectively engineered, these systems can give televisions more precise control over bright and dark areas of an image.
But TCL’s latest release also raises a broader question: what should market leadership mean beyond selling more televisions?
The company argues that shipment rankings demonstrate adoption and commercial reach, while a manufacturer’s wider contribution depends on implementation quality, transparency and helping consumers understand performance.
Its release identifies three technical considerations: hardware local dimming, the number of independently controlled dimming zones and Full Array Local Dimming.
These features work together to determine how accurately a television can direct light across its screen. The potential benefits depend on the complete system, rather than any single specification.
The category’s growth gives that discussion greater relevance. According to Omdia figures cited in the release, Mini LED televisions accounted for 13% of global TV shipments in the second quarter of 2026.
For TCL, the next challenge is to turn its shipment lead into lasting consumer confidence as more brands and products compete in the category.
