Senior politician Latif Ssebagala was nominated on Monday morning to contest for the position of Mayor of Kawempe division.
Ssebagala, the former Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, says he is running independently to amplify the voices of his people and constituents.
Ssebagala explained that he was never satisfied with the National Unity Platform's elections management committee. He believes the party flag was given to someone who is not popular or competent in the division.
"I was never satisfied with the results released by the elections committee. I fault it and believe I am the best candidate for the position," he explained.
Ssebagala, who is running with the radio symbol, says he will back Bobi Wine in his presidential bid. However, for other positions, he will consider different people based on their abilities.
"I will continue backing Bobi Wine for the presidential position but not all NUP candidates. I will personally scrutinize others before deciding whether to support them or not," he added.
The NUP party flag was given to the incumbent, Emmanuel Sserunjoji.
Latif Ssebagala joins a list of other candidates who have defied Bobi Wine and contested independently after losing the party flag.
Among them are Sauda Madada for Woman Lord Councilor, Kampala Central, and Julius Katerega for Makerere Lord Councilor, among others.
