David Lewis Rubongoya, the National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary-General and aspiring Kampala Central Member of Parliament, has expressed strong confidence that he will secure a decisive victory in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with Sanyuka Television, Rubongoya dismissed criticism from some Kampala politicians, affirming that the NUP’s solid support base in the city gives him a strong edge.
“We shall win big in Kampala Central. Ugandans believe in us — they know our vision and mission. They are seeking a tested leader, and I have a proven track record in service,” Rubongoya stated.
The NUP leader emphasized that his focus is on delivering effective leadership and tangible services to the people of Kampala Central, arguing that identity politics should not define leadership competence.
Rubongoya’s bid has drawn mixed reactions, with some critics claiming he should not contest in Kampala Central because he is “not a Muganda.” However, his supporters argue that his leadership credentials and long-standing commitment to the NUP’s cause make him the right candidate to represent the constituency.
As the elections draw closer, Rubongoya maintains that the people’s trust in NUP’s message of change and accountability will guarantee him victory in 2026.
