Ronald Balimwezo, the newly declared Lord Mayor–elect of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), has pledged a new leadership approach focused on unity and cooperation.

Balimwezo was last week announced winner in a hotly contested election, defeating seven candidates, including long-serving incumbent Erias Lukwago, who came third and formally conceded defeat on Saturday.

Speaking on Monday morning, Balimwezo said he intends to work with all stakeholders to improve Kampala and steer the city in a new direction.

“I am here to make sure Kampala gets better. My style of leadership is different from that of Lukwago. I am a team player, and I will not create wars. I believe in working together to build a better Kampala for everyone,” Balimwezo said in an interview with a local television station.

For over 15 years, Lukwago’s leadership at City Hall was often marked by open confrontations with the central government, frequently clashing over policy and administrative control.

Balimwezo says his administration will focus on dialogue, development, and service delivery, promising a calmer and more cooperative era at City Hall.
