Uganda’s creative industry is mourning the loss of celebrated filmmaker and actress Esteri Tebandeke, who has passed away after a long battle with kidney-related complications.
According to reports, Esteri had been struggling with her health for years and underwent a kidney transplant in 2022, with her husband donating the organ in a bid to save her life.
However, despite the hopeful procedure, her body reportedly rejected the transplanted kidney, leading to prolonged health challenges.
A few weeks ago, she was rushed to Nakasero Hospital, where she had been receiving specialized treatment until her passing.
Her death has sent shockwaves across the entertainment industry, with fans, colleagues, and loved ones expressing deep sorrow.
Esteri Tebandeke was widely respected for her contribution to film and the arts, featuring in productions such as Sins of the Parents (2008), Master on Duty (2009), and the globally acclaimed Queen of Katwe.
