Last week, Swangz Avenue star Azawi (Priscilla Zawedde) boldly claimed that she could outperform fellow singer Joshua Baraka outside of Kampala.

Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Azawi questioned Baraka’s reach across the country, describing him as primarily an "urban artist."

“I can stage an event in a stadium and pull a crowd. However, Joshua Baraka can’t do it outside Kampala,” she said.

Her comments were met with sharp criticism from netizens, who accused her of looking down on an artist currently representing the nation on international stages.

The singer has since apologized for her remarks, noting that she was "set up" by the media house, which she claims used a clipped video to drive a controversial narrative.

Azawi’s Statement

"I was set up by a certain media house, but fans who really know me didn’t fall for that trap. I’ve known Joshua since before he became a superstar; he’s my brother. He’s a huge fan of mine, and I am a huge fan of his. We’re both doing great in our own ways. He is doing amazing, and I am so proud of him.

I ask him and his fans to understand that media houses often use these tricks because they thrive on controversy. They set a trap for me, and of course, it made my personality look a certain way, but I didn’t intend it. That conversation had a broader context, but they took a specific clip and added a misleading caption to make it look weird. People need to know there is no bad blood."
