Residents of Masaba Village in Nkokonjeru Town Council, Buikwe District, are concerned after reconstruction of legendary musician Paulo Kafeero’s grave stalled following a court-authorized exhumation for DNA in a paternity case.
A site visit found no workers, with materials left behind, including mixed cement and sand, locked tools inside the structure, and missing gravel stones.
“The cement and sand were mixed, but no construction took place. The workers left, and the materials have remained here exposed,” Kalaala, one of the village residents said.
He suggested contractors might be waiting for additional supplies before resuming work.
Residents also noted police deployed at site had left, raising questions about resumption.
Community members expressed disappointment, saying Kafeero deserves dignified resting place due to his contribution to music and culture.
They called for supervision and use of local builders if materials provided.
They appealed to government including Minister Balaam Barugahara to intervene and ensure completion.
Reconstruction followed exhumation for ongoing legal paternity claims.
Authorities have not yet issued an official update on when reconstruction will resume, leaving uncertainty among residents who continue to guard the site informally and hope the late musician’s grave is restored with dignity and respect soon as community appeals for urgent intervention by authorities now.
