Dancehall singer Mark Da Urban has responded to Kenyan singer Bien over his recent comments about Uganda's music industry, arguing that the Kenyan artist misunderstood how the local entertainment scene operates.
Bien had suggested that Uganda's music industry is heavily driven by hit songs, claiming that a single successful track can sustain an artist through nationwide performances. He argued that the trend has limited the long-term growth of Ugandan musicians.
Mark Da Urban, however, rejected the claims, saying Uganda's fast-paced entertainment industry is one of its greatest strengths rather than a weakness.
"I have never been to Kenya, but I believe Ugandans are more talented than Kenyans. Uganda is more vibrant," Mark Da Urban said.
According to the dancehall singer, Uganda's constantly evolving music trends push artists to remain creative and consistently produce new music to stay relevant.
"In Uganda, things move very fast. You have to move with what is moving. Before you know it, something has taken over the trend and another thing has come up," he said.
The exchange follows Bien's assessment of the differences between the Kenyan and Ugandan music industries, with Mark Da Urban maintaining that Uganda's dynamic environment encourages innovation instead of holding artists back.
